Sahohiko and Sahohime - Sahohiko and Sahohime

Japanese: 狭穂彦･狭穂姫 - さほびこさほびめ

A brother and sister who appear in the stories of the reign of Emperor Suinin in the Kojiki and Nihon shoki. In the Kojiki, they are recorded as Sahonbiko and Sahonbime. In the section on Emperor Kaika in the same book, they are described as the children of Emperor Kaika's son Prince Hikomasu and Saho no Ookuramitome. Sahobiko, who plotted to usurp the throne, persuaded his younger sister Sahohime, who was the wife of Emperor Suinin, the 11th emperor, to take part in the rebellion and kill the emperor. Caught between her brother and her husband, Sahohime initially tried to kill the emperor but failed, and her plot was discovered.

記紀の垂仁朝の物語に登場する兄妹。《古事記》では沙本毘古･沙本毘売と記す。同書の開化天皇条では，開化天皇の皇子日子坐（ひこいます）王と沙本之大闇見戸売（さほのおおくらみとめ）のあいだの子とされる。王位簒奪を企てたサホビコは，11代とされる垂仁天皇の妃となっていた妹サホビメに，謀叛に荷担して天皇を殺すようそそのかす。兄と夫の板ばさみになったサホビメは，いったんは天皇を殺そうとするが果たせず，企ては露見する。
