An organization that promotes overseas migration (immigration) by providing consultation and mediation, covering travel expenses, and providing guidance and assistance after migration. It is a fully government-funded corporation based on the Japan Overseas Emigration Promotion Corporation and the Federation of Japan Overseas Associations, and was established in 1963. In 1974, it was renamed the Japan International Cooperation Agency. In 2003, it became an independent administrative institution, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). 海外移住(移民)振興のため,移住相談や斡旋(あっせん),渡航費等の支給,移住後の指導や援助等を行う機関。同事業団法に基づく全額政府出資の法人で,従来の日本海外移住振興(株)と日本海外協会連合会を統合し,1963年発足。1974年国際協力事業団と改称した。2003年独立行政法人・国際協力機構(JICA)となった。
