Da-qing yi-tong-zhi; Ta-ch`ing it`ung-chih
Also known as the Qing Yi Tong Zhi, this is a comprehensive geographical guide covering the entire territory of China during the Qing dynasty. It includes an overview and charts for each province, followed by an outline divided into six sections, and then 21 (or 22) sections for each prefecture. It was compiled three times during the Qing dynasty. The first was started in 1686 (the 25th year of the Kangxi era) after the pacification of mainland China, and was completed in 1743 (the 8th year of the Qianlong era) in 356 volumes. The second was started in 1749 (the 29th year of the Qianlong era) following the pacification of Xinjiang, and was completed in 1754 (the 49th year of the Qianlong era) in 424 volumes (called the Imperially Commissioned Edition of the 29th Year of the Qianlong era. The imperially commissioned edition is 424 volumes, but the version in general circulation has been revised to 500 volumes). The third series was begun during the Jiaqing period (96-1820) and completed in the 22nd year of the reign of Daoguang (42), consisting of 560 volumes. This work was never reprinted, but was published in 1934 as part of the sequel to the Four Parts Congkan under the title Jiaqing Chongxi Yi Tong Zhi.
