Zhang Shì zhi (English spelling)

Japanese: 張釈之 - ちょうしゃくし（英語表記）Zhāng Shì zhī

Chinese official of the Western Han Dynasty. Date of birth and death unknown. His pen name was Ji. He was from Duyang, Nanyang (Fangcheng County, Henan Province). It can also be read as "Chousekishi." He became a jirang through his wealth, and during the reign of Emperor Wen, he was recommended by Huan Wang to become an audience officer (in charge of the palace gates). His subordinates were recognized for their character when they impeached the crown prince for trying to pass through the palace gates in his carriage when he should have dismounted, and he was promoted to the position of court magistrate. As chief justice, he was particularly noted for his impartial application of the law, setting aside Emperor Wen's subjective judgment and dealing with those who violated the tour procession and stole offerings from the Gaozu Temple according to the law.

中国，前漢の官僚。生没年不明。字は季。南陽の堵陽（しやよう）(河南省方城県)の人。〈ちょうせきし〉とも読む。財貨によって騎郎となり，文帝のときに爰盎（えんおう）の推薦で謁者僕射（えつしやぼくや）(宮殿の門をつかさどる)となった。臣下は下車すべき宮殿の門を，車のまま通過しようとした皇太子を不敬罪で弾劾したことから人物を認められ，昇進して廷尉にのぼった。司法長官としての彼は，巡幸の列を犯した者や高祖廟の供えものを盗んだ者を，文帝の主観を排して法によってさばくなど，法の公平な適用を貫いたことでとくに注目される。
