Born on April 1, 1870. Professor at the Higher Normal School in 1908. Known for his research on diatomaceous earth and hot spring surveys, he edited the "Dai Nihon Chishi" (Great Japan Regional Geography) with Yamazaki Naomasa. Served as president of the Geological Society and the Geological Society. Died on August 26, 1928. Age 59. Born in Higo (Kumamoto Prefecture). Graduated from Imperial University.
