The central city of Saito City in central Miyazaki Prefecture. It is located on the alluvial plateau in the western part of the Miyazaki Plain. Former name of the town. In 1955 it merged with Kamihokita Village to become Saito Town, and in 1958 it became part of Saito City. It was the center of Hyuga Province from ancient times to the Middle Ages. It is home to the Saitobaru Burial Mounds, a special historic site, and Tsuma Shrine, which enshrines Konohana no Sakuya Hime (Princess Konohana Sakuya). 宮崎県中部,西都市の中心市街地。宮崎平野西部の洪積台地にある。旧町名。 1955年上穂北村と合体して西都町となり,58年から西都市の一部。古代から中世にかけて日向国の中心地。特別史跡の西都原古墳群やコノハナノサクヤヒメ (木花開耶姫) を祀る都万神社などがある。
