King of England of the Stuart dynasty (reigned 1660-1685). He fled to the continent in 1646 during the Puritan Revolution. After his father Charles I was executed, he went to Scotland to respond to his proclamation as king, but was defeated by Parliamentary forces and lived in exile again. He returned to England in 1660 when the monarchy was restored and ascended to the throne. With Clarendon as his aide, he gradually became reactionary, and in 1670 he made a secret pact with French King Louis XIV to restore Catholicism, deepening his conflict with Parliament and causing the Glorious Revolution.

スチュアート朝イングランドの国王（在位1660年―1685年）。ピューリタン革命で1646年大陸に亡命。父チャールズ１世が処刑されたのちスコットランドで国王と宣言されたのに応えて同地におもむいたが，議会軍に撃破され再び亡命生活を送る。1660年王政復古により帰国して即位。クラレンドンを側近として次第に反動化し，1670年フランス国王ルイ14世と密約を結んで旧教の復活を策し，議会との対立を深め，名誉革命の原因をつくった。
