A deciduous tall tree of the maple family. It is widely distributed in eastern North America. Its trunk is very thick and has a lifespan of 300 to 400 years. Its leaves are opposite each other, with 3 to 5 lobes, and 9 to 15 cm long. In the spring, when sap flows actively, a hole 3 to 6 cm deep is drilled about 1 m above ground in the trunk, and a tube is inserted to collect the sap that flows out. The syrup is then concentrated to obtain brown, flavorful maple syrup. It is famous for its use as a syrup for pancakes. It is also used in sugar production. A single leaf of this tree appears on the Canadian flag. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
