Gold and silver trade

… In medieval Japan, the gold-silver ratio was about 1:5-6; in China in the 12th and 13th centuries it was about 1:13; from the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 16th century it was 1:5-6; and in Korea in the 15th and 16th centuries it was about 1:10. From the mid-16th century, the price of gold and silver in Japan fell due to increased production, and the price of silver in particular became cheap. In the latter part of the same century, the gold-silver ratio became about 1:10, and a shift occurred to gold and silver trade. During the 15th century, silver was imported from Korea under strict controls, but from around 1538, Japan began to export large amounts of silver. …
