...A disease characterized by goiter, exophthalmos, and tachycardia, reported in 1840 by German physician Kavon Basedow. The same disease was reported independently by Italian Giuseppe Flaiani (1741-1808) in 1800, British Caleb H. Parry (1755-1822) in 1825 (posthumously), and Irish Robert J. Graves (1797-1853) in 1835. Depending on the country, it was called Flaiani's disease or Parry's disease, but the international name for the disease is Graves' disease today. In Japan, German medicine was mainstream, so Basedow's disease is still used as the diagnosis. ...
