1865‐1950 Swiss music educator and composer born in Vienna. In 1892 he was appointed professor of harmony theory at the Geneva Conservatory. Later, to make up for the shortcomings of music education, he invented eurhythmics, which aims to integrate sound and physical rhythm, and introduced it into education. In 1911, he founded a eurhythmics school in Hellerau, a suburb of Dresden, but it was closed in 1914 with the outbreak of World War I, and reopened the school in Geneva the following year in 1915. Eurhythmics had a major impact not only on music but also on dance. Wigman, who studied at Hellerau, became the founder of Neue Tanz, and Nijinsky also received inspiration from it in his creative endeavors.
