A fossil animal (→ Porifera) thought to belong to the order Monoaxonida, class Vulgarispongi, phylum Porifera. Fossils are tubular fossils of siliceous uniaxial needles about 5 mm in diameter and up to 50 mm in length. In Japan, they are often found in the upper Miocene strata of the Neogene system, especially in mudstone. In many cases, they are broken and short tubular. 海綿動物門尋常海綿綱モノアクソニダ目に属するものと考えられている化石動物(→海綿動物)。ケイ質一軸針からなる直径 5mm程度の管状を呈する化石で,長さ 50mmにも達する。日本では新第三系中新統上部の,特に泥岩中によく発見される。多くの場合折れて短い管状を呈する。
