A local feudal lord based in Ogogo, Seta County, Kozuke Province. Ogogo is a vast area with Ogocho on its northern border, stretching between and to the north of the old Tone River channel (present Momokigawa and Hirosegawa), and extending from Kozuka and Mimata in Maebashi City to Utsubo and Koyahara. The clan's founder, Ogo Shigetoshi, a descendant of Fujiwara no Hidesato, took root here from the end of the Heian period and promoted development, playing an active role as vassals of the Kamakura Shogunate. In addition, the clan's father and son, Takayoshi and Sanehide, are well known as followers of Jodo Buddhism who studied under Honen. Their influence declined during the Nanboku-cho period, and in 1382 (Kōwa 2/Eitoku 2), the site of Ogo Kazusa Nyudo was given to the Uesugi clan, the guardian of Kozuke Province, as a vassal of the clan.
