Kachin State (English spelling)
One of the seven states in the Union of Myanmar. Area: 87,800 km2, population: 1.14 million (1994). The state capital is Myitkyina. Established at the same time as Myanmar's independence, it is administratively divided into 18 townships. Located in the northernmost part of Myanmar, it borders India to the west and China to the east and north. Except for a small area of ​​flat land, the entire state is mountainous. Two rivers flowing north and south through the state, the Malika and Numaika, join near the state capital to form the Irrawaddy River, and the Chindwin River also originates in this state.
