Ichiki [town] - Ichiki
An old town in Hioki County, western Kagoshima Prefecture. Most of the area is a whitebait plateau, with a sandy beach at the northern end of Fukiagehama. The town's center is Minatomachi, a fishing port town on the Kagoshima Main Line. Dairy farming and mandarin orange cultivation are thriving, and shochu (Japanese liquor) is a specialty. Many people commute to Kushikino (now Ichikikushikino City) and Kagoshima City. In October 2005, it merged with Kushikino City to become a city, Ichikikushikino City. 31.56 km2 . 7,075 people (2003).
