Les Trois‐Frères (English spelling)

A Paleolithic cave site in the village of Montesquieu-Avantès in the Ariège department in southwestern France. It was discovered in 1914 by the three sons of Count H. Bégouën, hence the name (Les Trois Frères means "three brothers"). The cave is 750m long, and the murals are concentrated in the deepest chamber and in the short side corridors and chambers that emanate from it in all four directions. In addition to many bison and horses, there are overlapping line drawings of reindeer, mammoths, bears, owls, lions, and more.

フランス南西部，アリエージュAriège県のモンテスキュー･アバンテMontesquieu‐Avantès村にある旧石器時代の洞窟遺跡。1914年にベグエンH.Bégouën伯の3人の息子によって発見されたため，この名(〈レ･トロア･フレール〉とは〈3兄弟〉の意)がある。洞窟は延長750mあり，最深部の部屋と，そこから四方向に出ている短い側廊や部屋に集中して壁画が見られる。多くのビゾンや馬のほか，トナカイ，マンモス，熊，フクロウ，ライオンなどの線刻画が重なりあっている。
