A Paleolithic cave site in the village of Montesquieu-Avantès in the Ariège department in southwestern France. It was discovered in 1914 by the three sons of Count H. Bégouën, hence the name (Les Trois Frères means "three brothers"). The cave is 750m long, and the murals are concentrated in the deepest chamber and in the short side corridors and chambers that emanate from it in all four directions. In addition to many bison and horses, there are overlapping line drawings of reindeer, mammoths, bears, owls, lions, and more. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
