Sagara Tomoyasu
1836-1906 A doctor from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period.
Born February 16, Tempō 7. Sato Shochū studied Western medicine under AF Bauduin in Nagasaki and became the personal physician of Nabeshima Kansō, the former lord of Saga. In 1869 he became an official investigator of medical schools and worked to introduce German medicine. In 1872 he became the principal of the First University District Medical School (the precursor to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tokyo), and the following year he also became the first director of the Medical Bureau at the Ministry of Education. He passed away June 10, 1906. He was 71 years old. He was from Hizen Saga. His original name was Koan.

天保(てんぽう)7年2月16日生まれ。佐藤尚中(しょうちゅう),長崎のA.F.ボードインに西洋医学をまなび,前佐賀藩主鍋島閑叟(かんそう)の侍医となる。明治2年医学校取調御用掛となり,ドイツ医学の採用につとめる。5年第一大学区医学校(東京大学医学部の前身)校長,翌年文部省初代医務局長をかねた。明治39年6月10日死去。71歳。肥前佐賀出身。初名は弘庵。
【格言など】護健道ヲクスシノミチ,護健使ヲクスシト訓ジ,以テ医ノ名称ヲ廃スベシ(「保護健全意見書」)
