It is a former town in Kitaamabe County, occupying the tip of the Saganoseki Peninsula in eastern Oita Prefecture. Seki Port, near the tip of the peninsula, has flourished as an important port for crossing into Shikoku since early modern times, and is also a fishing port. Fish caught include sea bream, yellowtail, and horse mackerel. The Nippo Main Line runs through Kozaki in the west. It is connected to Misaki Town (now Ikata Town) in Ehime Prefecture on the opposite shore by ferryboat.
