The issue of Japanese interests or sphere of influence in Manchuria and Mongolia (present-day Northeast China, Inner Mongolia) in modern Japanese history up until 1945. It played an important role in Japanese foreign policy mainly in the 1920s. It became an issue when Japan tried to maintain its interests since the Meiji era against rising Chinese nationalism.
