Nasono Shirataki - Nasono Shirataki
Nasogawa Falls is located in Kotaki, Kisakata-cho, Yuri-gun, southwest of Akita Prefecture. It is a national scenic spot. It is 26m high and 11m wide at the mouth of the cliff of lava erupted by Mt. Chokai. Old cedar trees grow around the waterfall, and Kinpu Shrine, which has deep ties to Shugendo, is enshrined there. The Zao Gongen, Kannon Bodhisattva statue, and lion-dog statues kept at the shrine are prefecturally designated cultural properties. The upper reaches of the Nasogawa River, which originates from Mt. Inakura (1,554m), are the Naso Valley, once known as the inner sanctum of Kisakata, and are home to many waterfalls. Upstream of Shirataki is Shiraito Falls. The waterfall and the valley area belong to Chokai Quasi-National Park.
