Thomas Anderson of England was the first to isolate picoline (methylpyridine), a homologue of pyridine, from coal tar in 1846, and shortly thereafter isolated pyridine itself from bone oil. Initially, its structure was not confirmed and was written as shown in Figure 1-b, but in 1869, J. Dewar of England showed that it had the structure shown in Figure 1-a. ...
