...This ceremony is held to welcome the descent of the rice god, and involves singing rice planting songs. It is a ritual connected to other ceremonies such as Otaue and Hanataue, and the example of this in Kita-Ushima, Sado, is well known. There is also a method of planting rice in the opposite direction, where rice is planted from the outside of the rice field along the ridges to the center, which is called mawariue in Iwate and Akita prefectures.
