Born January 28, 1873 in Saint-Sauveur-Ampuizay, Burgundy
Died: August 3, 1954. A French female writer from Paris. She is one of the most famous female writers of the first half of the 20th century. At the age of 20, she married Willy (real name H. Gauthier-Villars), a writer in his 40s. At her husband's urging, she wrote an autobiographical novel about her childhood, Claudine à l'école (Claudine at the School), and the four other books in the Claudine series (1900-03) won her recognition. After divorcing in 1906, she appeared on the stage of music halls, and remarried in 1913. She served in the First World War as a journalist, and in 1920 published Chéri, a story of love between a fifty-year-old woman and a 17-year-old youth. She continued to produce masterpieces one after another. While using the techniques of traditional psychological novels, she pioneered unknown territory with her keen sense and refined sensibility. His major works include Le Blé en herbe (23) (The Blue Wheat), La Seconde (29) (The Second Woman), and Chatte (33) (The Cat).

A Norwegian female writer. Sister of national poet Wergeland. After suffering a love affair with her brother's rival Welhaven and traveling abroad for a long time, she married legal scholar PJ Collett, and after her husband's death, she began writing. She fought hard for the underprivileged women of the time, and her ideas on women's liberation had a great influence on Ibsen and others. Her representative works include Amtmandens døttre (1855) (Governor's Daughters), a collection of essays Fra de stummes leir (77) (From the Mute's Camp), and Mot strømmen (Against the Current) (79-85).

[Died] September 16, 1519. Sheen, Surrey. An English cleric and leading humanist of his time. He studied at Oxford University, France, and Italy. He lectured on the New Testament at Oxford from 1496 to 1504, and Erasmus also attended his lectures. As dean of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, he founded a school attached to the Cathedral around 1509 and wrote a famous Latin grammar textbook. His works, including commentaries on the Epistles of St. Paul, as well as his sermons and lectures, made him a pioneer of the English Reformation.

[Died] March 6, 1447. Saint of Ghent. Daughter of a carpenter. At the age of 17, after losing both parents, she joined the Third Order of St. Francis. In a vision, she received a command from St. Francis to restore the Poor Poor Clares to their original rules. In 1406, under the patronage of the antipope Benedict XIII, she carried out the reform, founding the Poor Poor Clares and establishing new monasteries one after another. This reform of the monastic order quickly spread to Savoy, France, Spain, and Germany. Canonized in 1807. Feast day is March 6.

Died January 22, 1795. Rouen, France. French organist and composer. He began as organist at the Church of Mary Magdalene in 1726, and served as organist in Paris, and from 1780 was organist for the Duke of Angoulême. He wrote excellent instruction books for voice, violin, harp, cello, mandolin, and other instruments, and also composed many elegant works, such as the "Concerto theatrical."
