Thor - Thor (English spelling)

Thor - Thor (English spelling)

A god in Norse mythology. He is well known along with Odin, and in the Edda he is said to be Odin's son. His wife is Sib. He lives in Thrudheimr, and wields Mjolnir, a hammer that always kills enemies when thrown, a belt that doubles his strength, and iron gloves to hold the hammer's handle. He is the strongest of the Asadi tribe, which protects gods and humans from giants, and there are many stories in the Edda mythology, such as the story of retrieving the hammer from the giant Thrym, fishing for a giant snake with Himir, defeating the giant Geirrod, and an expedition to the land of the giant Utgarthaloki. At the end of the world, he defeats the Midgard Serpent, but loses his own life to its venom. The fact that this god, the god of thunder and farmers, was widely worshiped throughout the Germanic region can be seen from place names and personal names.
