…1127-1222. One of the Ater-Beg states that took advantage of the disintegration of the Seljuk Empire and gained independence in various parts of the country. Its founder was Zengi (1084-1146, reigned 1127-46), son of Ak-Sunkurr, a slave soldier of Malik Shah. In 1127, Zengi was appointed governor of Mosul and gained independence.
