Kusakabe

A district of Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Formerly Kusakabe Town. It is rich in ruins dating back to the Nara period, and the remains of a dwelling (Kusakabe Ruins) excavated in 1949 (Showa 24) were equivalent to 50 houses and 1 ri in size under the Ritsuryo system. After the construction of the Tortoise Shell Bridge over the Fuefuki River in 1878 (Meiji 11), it flourished as the center of Higashiyamanashi County, with the county office and various government offices located there, and it remains the center of Yamanashi City today.

山梨県山梨市の一地区。旧日下部町。奈良時代以来の遺跡に富み、1949年（昭和24）に発掘された住居跡（日下部遺跡）は律令(りつりょう)制による50戸1里の規模にあたるものであった。1878年（明治11）笛吹川(ふえふきがわ)に亀甲橋(きっこうばし)ができてからは東山梨郡の中心地として栄え、郡役所や各種の官公署が置かれ、現在も山梨市の中心地となっている。
