Eucheuma muricatum (English name: Eucheuma muricatum)
A seaweed of the family Tosakanori (Mirinaceae) of the order Gigarinales, red algae. It is cylindrical, 2-3 mm thick, and 10-25 cm long. It is branched, cartilaginous, and brownish in color. It is found in the Ryukyu Islands, Malay Archipelago, Australia, and other areas, and in Japan it is found in the Tosa region of Shikoku. It is used as food and as an agar material. Note that a similar species, Togekirinsai, is also used as food in some areas.

紅藻類スギノリ目トサカノリ (ミリン) 科の海藻。円柱状で太さ2~3mm,長さ 10~25cm。枝分れし,軟骨質で色は褐色がかっている。南西諸島,マレー諸島,オーストラリアなどに分布し,日本では四国土佐地方にみられる。食用,寒天材料。なお,近似種のトゲキリンサイを地方によっては食用とする。
