Its abbreviation is Cam. It is a circumpolar constellation close to the North Pole. It occupies a wide area of the sky between Polaris and Auriga, but has no bright stars. It first appeared in a star atlas published by Bartius in the early 17th century. It means giraffe, a long-necked animal. Other constellations include the open cluster NGC1502 and the spiral galaxy NGC2403. Its approximate position is right ascension 5h40m, declination +70°.
