...The term "student part-time work" became popular and widespread during the post-World War II economically turbulent period (before that, it was called "homework"). In other words, in the situation immediately after the war, when the number of students dropping out or taking time off increased due to economic poverty, the need for part-time work became stronger. In response to this, university authorities actively began to arrange jobs, and the government also reorganized the Mobilized Student Aid Association (established in 1945) to establish the Working Student Aid Association (renamed the Student Aid Association in 1947, which exists to this day). After that, the number of student part-time jobs increased due to the labor shortage after the high economic growth period, the progress of the service economy, the increase in leisure time and leisure boom, and the popularization of universities. Now, like in the United States, most students have part-time work experience, and it cannot be seen as the image of a few poor students who studied while working (jobs such as clerk, waiter, newspaper delivery, and private tutor) that existed before World War II. ...

…学生のアルバイトという用語は,その近代的イメージから第2次大戦後の経済生活が迫(ひつぱく)していた混乱期に流行しはじめ一般化したものである(それ以前には〈内職〉とよばれていた)。すなわち,敗戦直後の経済的貧困のため退学・休学者が増加するという状況下,アルバイトの必要性を訴える声が強くなったのに対応して,大学当局も積極的にあっせんに乗り出し,また政府も,動員学徒援護会(1945設立)を改組して,1945年7月財団法人勤労学徒援護会(1947年財団法人学徒援護会に改称,現在に至る)を設置するに至った。その後,高度成長期以降の労働力不足,サービス経済化の進展,余暇時間の増大とレジャー・ブーム,大学の大衆化などによって学生アルバイトは増大し,いまやアメリカ同様ほとんどの学生がアルバイトを経験しており,第2次大戦前の働きながら学ぶ一部の苦学生のもの(その職種は書生,給仕,新聞配達,家庭教師などであった)というイメージではとらえることができない。…
