Preganglionic fiber

Japanese: 節前繊維 - せつぜんせんい（英語表記）preganglionic fiber

In the autonomic nervous system, the preganglionic neuron processes (axons) and the membrane structure that surrounds them are collectively called preganglionic fibers. Preganglionic fibers are often myelinated. Sympathetic preganglionic fibers originate from within the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord and reach the paravertebral or prevertebral ganglia. Parasympathetic preganglionic fibers originate from within the brainstem and reach the ciliary ganglion, pterygopalatine ganglion, submandibular ganglion, otic ganglion, or intramural ganglia of the thoracic and abdominal viscera, and from within the sacral spinal cord and reach the intramural ganglia of the pelvic viscera. Acetylcholine is released as a neurotransmitter from the terminals of all preganglionic fibers, regardless of whether they are sympathetic or parasympathetic.

自律神経系における節前ニューロン突起(軸索)とこれを包む被膜構造を合わせ，節前繊維という。節前繊維は有髄性であることが多いとされる。交感神経系節前繊維は胸･腰髄内から発し，椎傍あるいは椎前神経節内に至る。副交感神経系節前繊維には脳幹内から発して毛様体神経節，翼口蓋神経節，顎下神経節，耳神経節，あるいは胸･腹部内臓の壁内神経節に至るものと，仙髄内から発して骨盤部内臓の壁内神経節に至るものがある。交感，副交感神経系を問わず，すべての節前繊維の末端からはアセチルコリンが神経伝達物質として放出される。
