Campe, Joachim Heinrich

[Died] October 22, 1818.
German educator and man of letters. He taught the Humboldt brothers and was appointed superintendent of the School of Philanthropy in Dessau. He later opened his own educational institution near Hamburg, but in 1783 he gave up due to poor health. In 1787 he went to Brunswick as an educational consultant, bought a textbook publishing company, and published many children's books.
