ichigyo ichigyau [one line]

A monk from the Tang Dynasty in China. He learned Zen from Songshan and Fujaku, and later from Shanwuwei and Kongochi. He composed the 20 volumes of the "Mahavairocana Sutra Commentary" and built the foundations of esoteric Buddhism. He was also knowledgeable about astronomical almanac numbers, corrected the calculations of the traditional calendar, and wrote the 52 volumes of the " Daienreki ." He was known as Ikkyo Ajari and Zen Master Daie. ( 683-727 )

いちぎょう イチギャウ【一行】

中国唐代の僧。嵩山、普寂より禅を、のち、善無畏、金剛智より密教を学ぶ。「大日経疏」二〇巻を撰して、密教の基礎を築いた。また、天文暦数にくわしく、従来の暦の計算を正し、「大衍暦(たいえんれき)」五二巻を著わした。一行阿闍梨。大慧禅師。(六八三‐七二七
