A vine of the genus Hedera (Araliaceae). Widely distributed in North Africa, Europe, and Asia, it is sometimes considered one species or classified into about 10 species. Ivy grows wild in Japan. It is an evergreen shrub with many aerial roots that attach to other objects (trees, rocks, etc.) and climb up. The leaves are alternate and entire or have 3 to 12 shallow lobes like maple leaves. The flowers are bisexual and small with a greenish tint, and the fruit is a berry-like drupe containing 3 to 5 seeds. Canary ivy H. canariensis Willd. ( H. helix L.var. canariensis (Willd.) DC.) is a vine native to islands such as the Canary Islands, Madeira, and Azores. The stems are tall and either climbing or drooping longer than the object they are attached to. DC.)はカナリア,マデイラ,アゾレスなどの諸島原産のつる植物で,茎は高く登攀(とうはん)もしくは付着物体より長く下垂する。
