In order to cause the above reaction to occur under control (controlled nuclear fusion), it is necessary to confine high-temperature plasma. Plasma confinement methods are broadly divided into inertial confinement, which uses the inertial effect of plasma, and magnetic confinement, which uses the plasma confinement effect of a magnetic field. In the inertial confinement method, the fuel material (D, T) is sealed under high pressure in a tiny container (microballoon) with a diameter of several hundred μm to several mm, and is irradiated with a laser beam or particle beam of huge power (tens of terawatts (10 ¹³ W) or more) from the surrounding area for an extremely short period of time (a few ns). …
