Maruyama Kyo

Japanese:
Maruyama Kyo

It is a Shinto religious organization. Its founder is Ito Rokurobei. It began as a group formed in the early Meiji period around Rokurobei, who was said to have acquired mystical powers through training. At the recommendation of Shishino Nakaba, the chief priest of Sengen Shrine, it joined the Fuji Ichizan Kosha in 1874 (Meiji 7). Then, in 1882, when the Shinto Fuso sect became independent and became Fusokyo, it became an affiliated church. In 1885, it left Fusokyo and became affiliated with the Shinto Honkyoku, preaching under the name Maruyamakyo Honin, and after World War II, it became independent as Maruyamakyo. It is based on mountain worship, but also included ideas of social reform, and the number of believers rapidly increased, mainly in the Kanto region. However, after Rokurobei's death in 1894, the religious influence gradually declined. It is now a very small religious organization. The headquarters is in Noborito, Tama Ward, Kawasaki City. There are 76 churches, 28 others, 467 teachers, and 11,048 believers (Religious Yearbook, 2014 edition).
