It is an animal of the order Squamata, family Pangolinidae, class Mammalia. It has a body length of 75-100cm, a tail length of 50-70cm, a weight of 30-35kg, and 17 rows of scales on its body. It is found in Senegal and other parts of West Africa, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), and Uganda, and lives in forests and savannas, but does not climb trees and spends its time on the ground at night. It sometimes walks on only its hind legs. It sleeps during the day on an aardvark or in a hole it has dug itself, and at night it catches termites and ants with its long tongue.
