Fujin Koron - Fujin Koron

Japanese:
Fujin Koron - Fujin Koron

A monthly women's magazine published by Chuokoron-Shinsha. The July 1913 issue of Chuokoron, a special edition on women's issues, was well received, and the magazine was launched in January 1941. The first editor-in-chief was Shimanaka Yusaku, who had also planned the previous special edition. It started out as a magazine for women's education, aiming to expand women's rights, and often became a stage for debates about women's lifestyles. In that respect, it was a general magazine, and different from other women's magazines that focused on lifestyle articles. It was forced to cease publication with the March 1944 issue at the end of the Pacific War, but was relaunched in April 1946, and since then, it has gradually shifted from being an opinion magazine to devoting pages to topics such as "women's" sexuality. In the late 1990s, the magazine has been trying to change its image by making the magazine larger. In February 1999, Chuokoron-Shinsha became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Yomiuri Shimbun, becoming Chuokoron-Shinsha.
