…It is a term used to describe the change in form during growth. It originated in DW Thomson's book Growth and Form (1917) and was popularized by JS Huxley of England and G. Teissier of France (1900-72). The former used the term heterogony, and the latter disharmonic growth, but they later unified it into allometry. They independently discovered that the relationship between the sizes x and y of the two parts of a growth system can be empirically expressed by the formula y = bx α . …
