The Confucian Temple was built at its current location in the first year of the Tianyou era (904) at the end of the Tang Dynasty, when the local governor Han Jian restored Chang'an City, which had been devastated by war, on a smaller scale. At the same time, the stele forest is said to have been created to preserve the Kaicheng Stone Classic (a stone carving of Confucian scriptures completed in the second year of the Kaicheng era (837) of the Tang Dynasty) that was in the Guozijian (the national university of the Tang Dynasty). However, the prevailing theory is that Han Jian actually built the Confucian Temple at a different location, and that it was moved from there to its current location in the fifth year of the Yuanyou era (1090) of the Song Dynasty, and the stele forest was also developed. …

…もとは孔子をまつった文廟の後方にあったが，今日では文廟全体が博物館となり碑林も拡張されている。現位置に文廟が建てられたのは，唐末の天祐1年(904)に地方長官の韓建が戦乱のため荒廃した長安城を縮小再興したときで，同時に国子監(唐の国立大学)にあった開成石経(唐の開成2年(837)に完成した儒教経典の石刻)を保存する目的で作ったのが碑林だといわれる。しかし，韓建が文廟を建てたのは実は別の場所で，宋の元祐5年(1090)そこから現位置に移り，碑林も整備されたとする説が有力である。…
