Muslims who lived under Christian dynasties in the Iberian Peninsula. The name means "little Moors." Originally, it was a term for all Iberian residents who converted to Islam, but after the fall of the Kingdom of Granada, the last Islamic dynasty, in 1492, the term came to refer to Muslims who remained under Christian rule. They repeatedly rebelled against persecution, but in 1609, about 200,000 of them fled to the northern coast of North Africa after Philip III's expulsion order. → Related articles Almeria | Andalusia | Valencia (Spain) | Felipe III Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
