Muslims who lived under Christian dynasties in the Iberian Peninsula. The name means "little Moors." Originally, it was a term for all Iberian residents who converted to Islam, but after the fall of the Kingdom of Granada, the last Islamic dynasty, in 1492, the term came to refer to Muslims who remained under Christian rule. They repeatedly rebelled against persecution, but in 1609, about 200,000 of them fled to the northern coast of North Africa after Philip III's expulsion order.

イベリア半島でキリスト教諸王朝の下に居住したイスラム教徒。〈小さなムーア人〉の意。本来，イスラムに改宗したイベリア住民全般の呼称であったが，1492年最後のイスラム朝グラナダ王国陥落後もキリスト教支配下に留まったイスラム教徒をモリスコと呼ぶようになった。迫害に対し反乱を繰り返したが，1609年フェリペ３世による追放令で約20万人が北アフリカ北岸に逃れた。
