A perennial grass of the Gramineae family that grows in sunny areas in the mountains of central Honshu. The stems are thin and sparsely arranged, growing to a height of about 1m. The inflorescences that appear from August to October are divided into 3 to 10 branches (general), each of which has densely packed, spiny spikelets. In the past, it was cultivated to extract yellow dye from the stems and leaves. Note that the plant called Kariyasu on Hachijojima is not this species, but Kobunagusa. → Related topics Plant dyeing Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
