King of the West Franks. Reigned 936-954. Son of the Carolingian Charles III the Simple (reigned 898-922), he fled to England after the rebellion of Robert II in 922. After the death of King Raoul in 936, Louis was elevated to the throne as a result of the balance of power among the powerful princes. However, the kingdom of West Franks had already begun to form territorial domains in earnest, and there were no more Carolingian holdings or vassals left, so Louis became a puppet of the cunning Robertian Hugues le Grand.

西フランク王。在位936‐954年。カロリング家のシャルル3世単純王(在位898‐922)の息子で，922年ロベール2世の反乱後イギリスに亡命。936年国王ラウールの死後，有力諸侯間の勢力均衡から国王に担ぎ上げられる。しかし，すでに領域諸侯領の本格的形成が始まっていた西フランク王国には，もはやカロリング家の所領も家臣も残っておらず，こうしてルイは巧妙なロベール家のユーグ･ル･グランの傀儡（かいらい）となる。
