…Therefore, Shikibu was considered from an early stage to be the epitome of a woman who lived solely for love, in contrast to Murasaki Shikibu's chastity, Sei Shonagon's wit, and Akazomeemon's humility. She came to be spoken of as a beautiful and glamorous woman, and began to appear in numerous tales after the end of the Heian period. There is a tale in the Mumyosho, Kohon Setsuwashu, and other works that when Shikibu, who had retreated to the Kibune Shrine in Yamashiro after separating from Michisada, composed a song praying for her husband's return, she heard a song of comfort from Kibune Myojin. There are many tales of Shikibu as the author of songs that moved even the gods. Shikibu also appears in various love stories, including the tale in Uji Shui Monogatari that tells of the lecherous monk Domyo Ajari, son of Fujiwara Michitsuna, visiting Shikibu. …

…そのため式部は早くから，紫式部の貞淑，清少納言の機知，赤染衛門の謙譲に対して，愛情一筋に生きた女の典型と考えられ，艶麗な美女として語られるようになり，平安時代末以降，数々の説話に登場することとなった。道貞と別れたころ，山城の貴布禰社に参籠した式部が，夫が戻るように祈る歌を詠んだところ，貴布禰明神の慰めの歌が聞こえたという説話が《無名抄》《古本説話集》その他にあるが，神をも動かすような歌の作者としての説話は少なくない。また，藤原道綱の子で好色の僧道命阿闍梨が，式部のもとへ通ったという《宇治拾遺物語》の説話をはじめ，式部は種々の恋愛譚に登場する。…
