Glyptothek

...The Pinakothek in the Vatican Museums and the Alte Pinakothek in Munich are well known. On the other hand, when sculptures are mainly collected and exhibited (sculpture museums), they are sometimes called Glyptotheks, especially in Germany. The term gallery, which originally meant a corridor, passageway, balcony, etc., is often used in a similar sense to a picture gallery, as in the National Gallery of Art in London and Washington, but it is often used in a broader sense, as in the Uffizi Gallery, Galleria degli Uffizi, etc.
