Ondes Martenot - Ondes Martenot

Japanese: オンド・マルトノ - オンドマルトノ
Ondes Martenot - Ondes Martenot
An electric instrument introduced by the Frenchman Maurice Martenot in 1928. It is also known as the ondes musicale. It is a single-tone instrument that can be played not only with the keyboard, but also with a metal ring attached to the cord in front of the keys, which can be slid back and forth to produce portamento. Moving a finger back and forth while holding down a key produces a vibrato. The left hand is used to operate the filter and adjust the tone and volume. The speaker is separate from the main body, and in addition to the usual cone-shaped speaker, a special palm speaker or metallic speaker is used. Since 1947, it has been taught at the Paris Conservatoire, and composers such as Barès, Honegger, Jolibet, and Messiaen have written works using this instrument. Honegger's oratorio Joan of Arc at the Stake and Messiaen's Symphonie Turangalila are particularly famous.
