A town in Kitakatsuragi County in the northwest of Nara Prefecture, at the southeastern foot of the Ikoma Mountains. It has long been an important transportation hub, as it is where the Yamato River flows out into the Osaka Plain. It is on the Kansai Main Line and is a junction for the Wakayama Line, Kintetsu Ikoma Line, and Tawaramoto Line. In recent years, it has been developed into residential areas.
