〘Noun〙 A group that lived in the Ata area (western Kagoshima Prefecture) in ancient times. After the second year of the Taiho era ( 702 ), they were renamed Satsuma Hayato . ※Chronicles (720), Tenmu 11th year, July (Kitano Honin) "On this day, the Osumi Hayato and the Ata Hayato (Atano Haiton) wrestled in the courtyard." 〘名〙 古代、阿多の地（鹿児島県西部地方）に住んでいた集団。大宝二年（七〇二）以後、薩摩隼人(さつまはやと)と改称。※書紀（720）天武一一年七月（北野本訓）「是の日、大隅隼人と阿多隼人(アタノハイトン)と、朝庭に相撲(すまひと)る」
