Enokizu (Fukuoka) - Enokizu

...Early water transport was probably on a small scale between the villages along the river and the castle town. Water transport became active in 1646 (Shoho 3) when the Kurume Domain opened river banks at Senoshita, the entrance to the castle town, and at Enokizu (present-day Okawa City), the mouth of the river, to transport rice tax to Osaka. River banks were established in the river basin, including Seki (Bakufu territory), Arase, Eri, and Sumiyoshi (all Kurume territory).
