...Theaters in Warsaw and elsewhere maintained their refusal to play Russian plays (Gogol was excluded because he was a Ukrainian author). During this time, in addition to those mentioned above, plays by Wojciech Bogusławski (1757-1829), Aleksander Fredro (1793-1876), S. Byspianski and others stood out, and their works are still performed today. After World War II, the nationalization of theaters around the country was completed in 1949 when the National Theater was rebuilt, and socialist realism was imposed, but the Thaw of 1955-56 restored the theater world's original freedom and independence. ...
