Wear - Aigi

It means a garment worn between layers of clothing, and in the Edo period, it referred to the kosode (short sleeves) worn by women of samurai families under their uchikake (summer kimono). The fabric was officially rinzu, and the colors were plain yellow, white, or red, and they were called mako, mashiro, and maaka. It is said that mako was worn on the 7th of the New Year, mashiro from March 3rd to 30th, and maaka from October to December. This was for formal occasions, and in ordinary cases, patterns made with tie-dye or embroidery were also used. Also, crepe and saya were used depending on the rank of the wearer. Under the mako, a layer of white habutae underwear was generally worn. Today, mako is called kakeshita, and is only used as a bridal costume along with the uchikake.

In addition, clothes worn between seasons, such as between spring and summer (May) and between summer and autumn (September), are called aigi, and are often used synonymously with gofuku.

重ねた衣服の間に着る衣服の意で、江戸時代には武家の女性が打掛(うちかけ)の下に着用した小袖(こそで)のことをいう。布地は正式には綸子(りんず)、色は黄、白、赤の無地、これを間黄、間白、間赤といった。間黄は正月7日、間白は3月3日から30日まで、間赤は10月から12月の間に用いたといわれる。これは正式の場合であって、普通の場合には、絞りや刺しゅうで模様を表したものも用いられた。また身分によって縮緬(ちりめん)、紗綾(さや)などが用いられた。間着の下には、一般に白羽二重(しろはぶたえ)の下着を重ねて着用する。今日では間着は掛下(かけした)とよばれ、打掛とともに花嫁衣装に用いられているだけである。

　ほかに、季節と季節との間、すなわち春と夏との間（5月）、夏と秋との間（9月）に着る衣服を合着(あいぎ)といい、合服と同義に使うことが多い。
